About the iPhone

Introduction about the iPhone

Apple developed this smartphone called the iPhone. The first iPhone came out in 2007 and there have been four generations of iPhones thus far and rumors of the fifth generation to come out in October 2011. The iPhone has many different features such as camera, video camera, media player, web browser, text, calling, and it is capable of Wi-Fi and 3G network connectivity. With the touch screen and brand name of Apple, the iPhone met its success. As of now, AT&T and Verizon are the only authorized carriers of the iPhone. The iPhone has many benefits to it, but as there are benefits there are also flaws to the smartphone to be fixed in the near future.

Background

Apple started the development of the first iPhone in 2005 with the help of the former CEO Steve Jobs. The first iPhone was available in January 9, 2007 and it started selling in the United States in June 29, 2007. Apple sold 1 million of their iPhones by September 10, 2007 and they were on a road to success. Then they came out with the iPhone 3G which was released on June 11, 2008 and they sold 1 million of those in three days. Then on June 19, 2009 Apple came out with the iPhone 3Gs which 1 million of those were sold in just 2 days. Then the latest model, the iPhone 4, was released on June 24, 2010 where a million iPhones were expected on the release day because of the pre-orders they had on the phone. Currently there are rumors that the new, latest iPhone 5 is supposed to be launched on October 4, 2011 (Mashable Inc., 2010).

Potential Benefits of the iPhone

As the model/ generation of the iPhones get higher the better quality the iPhone becomes. The iPhone, being a smartphone, has portable media player to listen to music, has a camera to record and take pictures and, most importantly, has web access as well as all the functions of a cellular phone. The newest generation of the iPhone (iPhone 4) has many beneficial and new features. First, iPhone 4 is able to do something called “FaceTime” (Apple, 2011) where when a call is made to another iPhone 4 user or iPod touch user, it’s possible to see their face while calling. Apple also enhanced the “retina display” (Apple, 2011) of the iPhone 4 in order for the display screen to have a high resolution which makes everything look very “amazingly crisp and images stunningly sharp” (Apple, 2011). Also, multitasking is available on the iPhone 4. Through multitasking it’s possible for users to run various applications at the same time which makes it convenient because users don’t have to keep wasting their time loading one application at a time and instead they can have many different applications running at the same time (Apple, 2011). The iPhone in general is very convenient with its Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity because it’s possible for users to check their email and web browse and use the GPS system in the iPhone anywhere they go (that has service or Wi-Fi capability). The battery lives for the iPhones are very long too, as it ranges from 24 hours to 40 hours (hours increasing as the generation number increases).

Conclusion of the Apple iPhone

The iPhone is a beneficial portable smartphone device with many pros to it, but like most other products there are still flaws that have to be fixed. Apple is making a lot of profit off of the iPhone as it is one of the biggest competitors in the smartphone industry. As of now the only iPhone carriers are AT&T and Verizon, but there are speculations and expectations of more iPhone carriers in the near future. Also, there is news buzzing around about the launching of the new generation iPhone, the iPhone 5, but nothing is confirmed. Further innovations will probably be made to the iPhone and as the generations increase the iPhone will get better inventions and additions made to it.
